JANE THOMSON

A little about me….I spent many years as a commercial TV producer in my previous career, having had the opportunity to work with some of the finest directors, cinematographers and lighting directors in the world. I was always mesmerized by how the director worked so comfortably with the actors, and how the cinematographers could light a room like a painting. The way the light they created fell on the actors was like magic to me.

I hoped someday I might be doing the same thing, so I began studying photography and how to shape light and direct real people. I quickly discovered that I absolutely love faces, and photographing some kind of ‘connection’ was exactly I wanted to do. I began with dogs because of my dog Phoebe…so that’s where my dog portraiture began.

My photographic style leans toward the classic and dramatic. Capturing a dog or a human face in front of a simple canvas backdrop, without the distraction of props speaks volumes of who the subject really is. This simplicity creates powerful, timeless portraits of individuals, families and of course…dogs.
